How Parents Can Help at Hilltop

when our Campus is Closed to Visitors

This guide is for the many of our wonderful volunteers who have wondered how they can help our Hilltop Community. We expect that the Snohomish Co. Health Dept. and OSPI will not allow people other than staff the during remote Continuous Learning 2.0 phase of our school year. If and when we enter into a Hybrid Model, we expect that only students and staff will be allowed on campus.

Hilltop Goals 2020-2021

Our Hilltop Goals during remote and hybrid learning include:

  • Keeping our students, staff and community safe and healthy.
  • Provide the support that each student needs in our more robust version of distant learning.
  • Strengthen connections between and amongst students, staff and families.

Ways to Volunteer During Continuous (Distant) Learning 2.0

  • Take care of yourself and your family. When things go back to normal, your Hilltop Community will need many volunteers once again. So, it is okay and encouraged that your time is dedicated to supporting your family during this tough time with new models of instruction, learning, school work, and the new way we are living.
  • Respond to individual teacher requests for volunteers. After teachers get to know their students, your teacher may be looking for volunteer support from October on. Teachers will communicate with their families when volunteers are needed.
  • Beautify our school. We miss our weeding parties! Come as a family unit or individual to weed. Make large weed piles in the planting areas and we will have the weed piles picked up.
  • Please consider donating food or your time to Nourishing Network.  The Hilltop staff want to make sure that all students have the food they need in their household. Various staff members have been volunteering for Nourishing Network, a program of the Edmonds Schools Foundation that delivers weekly food boxes to families. Staff members have spent hours sorting food and delivering boxes to families across the Edmonds School District. We made weekly donations of food to this program last spring. With the increased demands of the fall learning program, it will be less likely that staff members will be able to volunteer. Visit their site for more information.
  • Be a positive voice with fellow parents. This is still new territory for all of us. If there is something that your child needs support with or if there is a concern that you have, please bring your concerns directly to our staff. Our Website has contact information for our staff members. You can also contact our principal at SomozaM341@edmonds.wednet.edu.  If you prefer a phone call, please leave a message via email or phone and we will return your call.
  • Support the PTSA. Fundraising will be impacted, and we rely on our PTSA to financially support our community events and enrichment materials for our classrooms. Please add Smile to your Amazon account, scan your receipts for Boxtop points, and find other ways to support our PTSA.

During Hybrid Learning

  • Understand our drop off and pick up procedures and understand that we will miss being able to chat with you in person at pick-up and drop-off.
  • Volunteer to sanitize manipulatives or science items in your dishwasher.

Look for other requests from PTSA, your child’s teacher, or our librarian.
